Whittaker Chambers 1901 - 1961

Whittaker Chambers, the man who brought down Alger Hiss and explained so much about Communist infiltration of the United States and who also played a great part in the formation of conservative thought in that country died fifty years ago today. This essay about him and the world since his death is by his grandson, David Chambers.

  1. There still are flat-Earthers. Therefore, there still are Alger Hisslings (see, for instance, the relentlessly Stalinist magazine "The Nation"). Both psychoses are likely to be around for some time.

  2. The Hisslings will be around for a lot longer than anyone else, I consider. They are incapable of rational thought.
