Not sure what is more disturbing

1.) That the President of the United States assumes that his election is as much of a given as that of the "re-elected" President of Russia.

or

2.) That the President of the United States hastily promises things to the temporary President of Russia that are clearly not in the interests of his own country as long as he is given "space" by the real President of Russia.

or

3.) That the President of the United States is one of those dumb politicians who are incapable of checking whether the mike near them is still open when they make comments they don't want the world to hear.

I leave it to this blog's readers to work it out

  1. Or that he knew the mike was on and this was a deliberate message to his base in the US to tell them he will return to his left wing, progressive, anti-US position after the election and not to worry . . .

    1. The trouble with that theory is that the story has been spread far and wide by Obama's opponents not by his supporters who may not even be aware. Going by past experience, the supporters will deny this happened.

    2. Yes, I agree.

As always, just trying to see if there is some sense to an act of gross stupidity.

  2. Or, maybe Obama was just making a statement of diplomacy rather than agression. And "letmethink", it's not 2002 any more. You can't get away with calling opponents of American Empire 'left-wing' or 'anti-US', (not least because most of them are now right-wing libertarians who dislike Obama's left-wing domestic policies)

I quite agree, Anonymous. A truly pro-US foreign policy would be one that isn't dictated by AIPAC or the neocons. You can never have a conservative or pro-American foreign policy so long as it is controlled by those whose main allegiance is to a foreign state.

  3. At least this gives the US right-wing an easy way of exposing his ambition to advance a more radical anti-US agenda in his second term. Not that this is any surprise to people who follow the news, but it might sway a few undecideds who don't pay much attention.

President Obama is in over his head. He has been caught before with open microphones! I can see November 2012 from here.
