Europe Day? Pshaw!

This is what we need to celebrate: День Победы or Victory Day. I dare you!

  1. I watch RT news programmes and I noted how many people wear the red and gold ribbons to recognise Victory Day . It is heartening to see such public displays of patriotism .

  2. And triumphalism and ignorance of what really happened. Keep watching the Kremlin propaganda channel.

  3. It chances that I am just reading Citadel , the Battle of Kursk by Robin Cross.
I am utterly humbled by the courage and tenacity of the Russian people in defeating the German war machine in spite of the incompetence of their beastly, bloody government.

  4. I don't think any of us could possibly argue about their courage and tenacity. Their beastly, bloody government was incompetent and worse. A good many of the casualties were the direct result either of incompetence or of Stalin's view that the people's lives did not matter. I am sure you know the stories of SMERSH standing behind the troops and mowing them down if they retreated or what happened to POWs if they happened to escape and make their way back and, indeed, what happened to those handed back at the end of the war.
