On the whole I am missing him despite the many problems. But then, I always thought I would miss him. What of all those who ranted and raved about the rough cowboy and welcomed the ultra-sophisticated Barack Obama. Things would now be different, they sighed contentedly.
So they are proving to be. President Obama, unlike his predecessor, will not be attending the annual EU-US Summit because ... well ... because he does not feel like it and, anyway, he does not think it is very important. Maybe he is right, but his decision has come as a bit of a shock to the Spanish Presidency who are to host the event. How do you have a Summit if one side prefers to do something else? Maybe he will send a video of himself praising himself and telling the EU leaders that everything that happened in European history was worthwhile as it led inexorably to the election of Barack Obama to be POTUS.
Are they missing President Bush yet?
Helen,
ReplyDeleteFor once I find myself in agreement with the present POTUS. (What is the world coming to ??) He blames the Lisbon treaty. Thus, spake his spokesman: "Up until recently, they [the summits] would occur on six-month intervals, as I recall, with one meeting in Europe and one meeting here. And that was part of – the foundation of that was the rotating presidency within the EU. Now you have a new structure regarding not only the rotating EU presidency, you've got an EU Council president, you've got a European Commission president," he said.
Too many presidents, too few ideas, I guess. :)
BTW, talking about the ultra-sophisticated Barack Obama I hope you haven't missed this. I am sure the BBC has shown it time and time again - to the accompaniment of laughing pundits.

They thought I was joking when I said that Barack Obama was put on this earth to make George W Bush look good . . . . .
ReplyDeleteThanks for that link Mikgen. I managed to miss that. Not that I am surprised or shocked. Nothing shocks me about this POTUS. I do, however, recall him welcoming the Lisbon Treaty with great joy.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I didn't think you were joking but you are certainly being proved right with every passing day.
Helen,
ReplyDeleteYou are right. You, me, Andrew, we are not shocked by what this POTUS is doing, but I really would like to hear those know-it-all pundits who kept (no, keep - who am I kidding?) telling their viewers and/or readers about how intelligent this man is explain this and a few other statements. (Did you speak any Austrian while in Vienna?)
