In November 1956 in my first year at infant school in a small mining village in Cumberland we had a collection for the refugees from Hungary. My mother gave me 2 shillings towards the fund.
Ah yes, I was in my first year of primary school and we were at the receiving end of people's generosity, though it was after the Revolution was put down. I can testify that we got the Swiss milk donated by Nestle and the presents sent by other children from the West. Your two shillings were not wasted.
